Once upon a time in the south…
A lifechanging decision..
In 2021 I moved to France with my husband Kees and our 3 dogs to start a new adventure there. After I had enjoyed running a B&B in the Netherlands for several years, we thought it would be a nice challenge to start a luxury boutique hideaway in the South of France.
After orienting ourselves well, our choice fell on Occitania, namely the department of LOT: a beautiful wooded area with clean nature and medieval villages. And on top of that, it’s only a 2.5-hour drive to the Pyrenees or to Bordeaux and the Atlantic coast.
In the summer of 2021 we became the proud owner of a 17th century fortified farmhouse with 11 hectares of land and woodland. There was a lot to be done: modernize the interior of the house, new roofs on the outbuildings, renovate the “petit-atelier” into a cozy communal residence, transform the grange into 4 beautiful rooms/suites, build a swimming pool and terraces, plant trees, etc.
In order to preserve the authentic character of the buildings, we have carried out all the work with local artisans. And I was able to indulge in my passions: designing, furnishing and styling. Of course, there also had to be a “potager” (vegetable garden). Because let’s be honest: “what could be better than sun-ripened tomatoes, eggplants, pumpkins, etc. Delicious: fresh on your plate. And also cosmeas, dahlias, marigolds, etc. to put in the rooms of the guests in season.
